Respona Alternatives: Buy Placements or Run Your Own Outreach?

By 15 min read

On this page

Respona used to sell outreach software. Today it sells link placements: you pay $100 to $500 for each link, and its team does the work. That suits some buyers well. If you’d rather choose the sites, keep the editors’ replies or pay a monthly fee instead of a price per link, you need something else. This guide compares seven Respona alternatives, with prices checked on each vendor’s own site on October 18, 2026.

Comparing just the two? Linkade vs Respona puts them side by side on price, features and who each one suits.

A balance weighs a price tag for each placement against a monthly outreach calendar and a hand-kept spreadsheet.
Weigh a price for each placement against outreach you run yourself.

What you’ll learn

  • Respona sells placements now, and its old software is AI Backlink Builder in the Semrush App Center.
  • Decide whether you want to buy links or run outreach you control.
  • Work out a cost per live link for each option before you compare fees.
  • Stay with Respona if a guaranteed placement matters more than choosing the sites.

What Respona sells now

Respona sells link placements as a managed service. You pick a tier and give it your target pages and anchor text. Its team then finds the sites, runs the outreach, writes the content and gets it published. Formats include listicles, reviews, comparisons and contextual guest posts, and you follow each order in a dashboard.

The pricing page lists five tiers, priced per placement by the linking site’s DR:

  • Starter, $100 on a DR 20+ site
  • Standard, $160 on DR 30+
  • Authority, $240 on DR 40+
  • Power, $400 on DR 50+
  • Elite, $500 on DR 60+

The price covers the content, the outreach and publishing. Spending $3,000 a month earns 10% off, $5,000 earns 20%, and the discount reaches 60% at the highest spend. Standard turnaround is 28 days, or 14 for an extra fee. By default Respona handles everything end to end. Pre-approving each domain or setting rules for the sites costs extra. Respona guarantees every placement you order goes live within the agreed timeframe.

The outreach software lives on under another name. AI Backlink Builder is an app by Respona in the Semrush App Center. Semrush’s help page lists it at $169 a month on the Starter plan, with 2 email accounts, 10,000 data credits a month and 30,000 active contacts, and extra 5,000-credit packs at $50 a month. Respona’s homepage doesn’t mention it. If you liked the old Respona software, that app is the closest thing to it.

Linkade publishes this guide, and Linkade is one of the options. Each vendor fact comes from that vendor’s own website, checked October 18, 2026. We did not run a hands-on test of every product, so treat the fit notes below as a starting point for your own trial.

Decide whether to buy placements or run outreach

You can get links from other sites in two ways. You can buy finished placements from Respona or an agency. Or you can run outreach, by hand or with a tool, and win each link by asking. The two cost different amounts and leave you different work.

Buying placements is predictable. You know the price of each link before you order, and someone else does the work. In return you give up the choice of sites unless you pay to approve them, and the conversations with editors stay with the seller.

Running outreach puts you in charge. You see each site before it is pitched, editors reply to you, and you can go back to them next time. You pay whether or not publishers say yes, and some will ask for a fee before they add a link. Our guide to link building outreach costs breaks that budget down.

A simple test helps. If you only care that a set number of links go live, buy placements. If you want to choose the sites and know the editors, run outreach. The agency vs in-house guide covers the same choice for a whole team.

Choose how you pay for links. Per placement, a service does the work. Per month, a tool pitches for you. Per hour, you pitch by hand.

Seven Respona alternatives

1. Linkade

Linkade is a link building tool that finds relevant sites and pitches them for links. You run the outreach, and Linkade does most of the work in it. It finds sites through competitor backlinks, search results and web research, then judges each site on its metrics and its fit with your campaign. It turns down competitors, sites that don’t publish and sites outside your market, but it doesn’t turn down sites that charge. It pitches guest posts and link inserts only, never ad packages, sponsorships or memberships.

It uses a contact the publisher prints on the site, or one it has verified. The first email is short and asks whether the publisher is interested, with no link until they say yes. Linkade buys a sender domain and mailbox for each workspace and warms it up for 21 days before it sends. In Copilot, the default, you approve each email. In Autopilot, Linkade sends the emails that match your campaign’s brief. Editors reply to you, Linkade sorts each reply, and it checks each placed link every 24 hours to see whether it is live, lost or changed.

It fits founders and agencies who want to choose the sites and keep the relationships, without doing the outreach by hand. Plans are monthly and you can cancel any time. See current plans. Setup shows you the real sites it would pitch for your domain for free, with no card. There is no free trial: contacts, drafts and sending open once you pick a plan.

The limits, next to Respona: Linkade guarantees no links, and you pay the monthly fee whether publishers say yes or not. You write every reply and any guest post an editor asks for. The first email goes out only after the 21-day warm-up, and Linkade started in 2026, so its track record is short. For a side-by-side view, read Linkade vs Respona.

2. Pitchbox

Pitchbox calls itself “The AI Outreach Platform for link building and AEO.” It covers prospecting, AI personalization, outreach, a CRM built for link building and reporting. Its AI Reply Agent answers publisher replies, and agencies can send white-label reports. You can connect your own Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz or Majestic account, and it works with Zapier and Slack and has an API.

It suits agencies and teams building 20 or more links a month. On its pricing page, Pro costs $300 a month billed monthly or $210 a month billed annually, for 2 users and 2 email accounts. Advanced costs $600 or $420, and Scale $1,200 or $825. Free trials come after a demo, or you can subscribe from the pricing page.

The limit: every plan needs a one-year commitment, and your team still runs the campaigns. Coming from a service that did everything, that is a big change in workload. Our Pitchbox alternatives guide covers it in depth, and Linkade vs Pitchbox compares the two directly.

3. BuzzStream

BuzzStream is an outreach CRM for digital PR and link building, in the market since 2008. Your team keeps prospects, contact details, outreach email and link monitoring in one shared place, and newer AI features find contact details and build media lists.

It suits teams that research and write their own pitches. On its pricing page, Starter costs $49 a month for 1 user and 500 contacts. Growth costs $174 for 3 users, and Professional $424 for 6 users. Plans are monthly with no minimum term, and there is a free trial.

The limit: BuzzStream organizes the work and leaves the research and writing to you. It is the furthest option from Respona’s done-for-you model. See our BuzzStream alternatives guide and Linkade vs BuzzStream.

4. MentionAgent

MentionAgent is an AI agent that finds posts in your niche, checks which sites are worth pitching and gets the editor’s email. It writes each pitch about the editor’s post and sends it from a Gmail inbox on a separate domain it runs for you. By default, every email waits for your approval. It drafts your replies, follows up when a site goes quiet and checks your live links nightly. Twice a month it asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini what your buyers ask and shows the answers that mention you.

It suits agencies, ecommerce, SaaS and local businesses that want AI answer checks alongside outreach. Plans are priced by sending inbox: $99 a month for one, $179 for two, $329 for four and $629 for eight. You get 50 free credits with no card, and a 14-day money-back guarantee.

The limit: most of its deals are mention swaps, where you mention the blog back, and it turns down sites that ask for a fee. Unlike Respona, it promises no placements. See Linkade vs MentionAgent or MentionAgent alternatives.

5. BacklinkGPT

BacklinkGPT is an AI agent that finds roundups and guides in your niche and marks each page keep, drop or a second look, with the reason written down. It finds the editor’s email and LinkedIn, then pitches from your own inbox or LinkedIn profile, as you. It follows up, negotiates when a site asks for a fee and tells you if a won link drops or goes nofollow. Its site says most good sites ask a fee, often $75 to $250, and every payment waits for your OK.

It suits business owners and founders promoting their own site. Starter costs $149 a month for one inbox or LinkedIn profile, with up to 6 pitch drafts a day. Growth costs $399 for up to 3 inboxes and 12 a day, and Scale $999 for up to 6 inboxes and 25 a day. Extra inboxes or profiles are $19 a month each. There is a free preview with no card, and no trial.

The limit: BacklinkGPT says it is not built for agencies or resellers managing client sites, so agencies that resell Respona placements should look elsewhere. See Linkade vs BacklinkGPT or BacklinkGPT alternatives.

6. Doing it by hand

A spreadsheet and your normal email account can run a small campaign. You search for sites, check each one, find a contact, write the email, track the reply and check the link later. There’s no software fee beyond the email account you already pay for, though some sites will still ask a fee.

This suits a first campaign, or a founder who wants to learn the work before paying anyone for it. Our guides to prospecting, finding contacts and outreach templates cover each step.

The limit is your time. Every step is yours, and follow-ups and opt-outs slip easily in a spreadsheet. The manual vs automated outreach guide helps you decide which steps to hand off.

7. Hiring an agency

A link building or digital PR agency is the closest thing to Respona. You agree on goals, and the agency finds sites, pitches them and reports back.

This suits teams that want someone else to do it all, with more say in the plan than a placement order gives. Agencies set their own prices, and few publish them. For a rough guide, BuzzStream surveyed about 70 digital PR agencies and freelancers. About 90% of the agencies charged a monthly retainer, the average monthly contract was about $5,458, and the average cost per link for digital PR was $597 (BuzzStream’s digital PR cost survey, updated June 12, 2026).

The limit is cost and visibility. Compare a retainer with the placements the same money would buy, and ask what the agency does that a placement order doesn’t. Ask which sites they will pitch, who writes the emails and who keeps the publisher relationships if you leave.

When to stay with Respona

Respona is the right choice for some buyers. Stay if most of these describe you:

  • You want a set number of live links, and the guarantee matters more to you than choosing the sites.
  • Nobody on your team has time to write guest posts or answer editors. Respona’s team writes the content.
  • You resell links to clients and want a fixed price per link to plan around. Respona sells to agencies and resellers.
  • You spend enough each month to earn its volume discounts.
  • You need a link live within 14 days and will pay for the faster turnaround.

Linkade can’t promise you a placement or a date. Each publisher decides whether to link, and the replies and guest posts are yours to write.

You can also use both. Buy a few placements for a launch while your own outreach warms up, then compare what each link cost you.

Test both models before you switch

Run a small, fair test before you move your budget. This is a test for you to run. We have not run it across these products.

Step one: order a few placements

Order a handful of Respona placements at the tier you would normally use. Write down each site, the date you paid and the date the link went live.

Step two: pitch a similar set yourself

Over the same weeks, run outreach to a similar number of sites with the tool you are testing, or by hand. Note any warm-up time before the first email can go out.

Step three: compare the cost of each live link

For each side, add the fees, any site charges and your hours. Divide by the live links. Compare the fit of each site with your market as well as the price.

Step four: compare what you keep

Note which editors you can contact again, which sites you would choose again, and what you learned about your market. A cheaper link you can’t build on may be worth less than it looks.

The worksheet at the end of this guide keeps both sides of the test on one page. For a wider look at tools, read how to choose link building outreach software.

Run a side-by-side test. Order a few placements. Pitch a similar set yourself. Compare the cost of each live link.
Run a side-by-side test: Order a few placements → Pitch a similar set yourself → Compare the cost of each live link.

Questions about Respona and its alternatives

How much does Respona cost?

On October 18, 2026, Respona charged per placement: $100 on a DR 20+ site, $160 on DR 30+, $240 on DR 40+, $400 on DR 50+ and $500 on DR 60+. Discounts start at 10% off for $3,000 a month and reach 60% at the highest spend.

Does Respona still sell outreach software?

Its homepage sells placements and doesn’t mention software. The software is now AI Backlink Builder, an app by Respona in the Semrush App Center, listed at $169 a month on the Starter plan.

Does Respona guarantee placements?

Yes. Its site says it guarantees every placement you order goes live within the agreed timeframe. Outreach tools, Linkade included, can’t promise links, because each publisher decides.

Can I choose the sites Respona uses?

You can pre-approve every domain or set rules for the sites, for an extra fee. By default its team handles everything end to end.

How long does Respona take?

Standard turnaround is 28 days. You can pay extra for 14.

Which alternative is closest to Respona?

An agency, if you want someone else to do all of it. If you want most of the work done but to keep the choice of sites and the editors’ replies, look at Linkade, MentionAgent and BacklinkGPT.

Is a placement service or an outreach tool cheaper?

It depends on how many links you win. A placement has a fixed price. A tool’s cost per link falls as you win more and rises when publishers say no. Run the test above with your own numbers before you decide.
